Modern Farms : Mega farms

Farmers have historically been part and parcel of the local and regional economy. The family farm has given way to intensive farming, involving international trade. The trend toward globalization has meant that farms have basically become production units. To compete in the international market, several producers combine their resources to acquire neighbouring farmland. As a result, the number of farms decreases while their size increases.
