Hytek Farm - 1 and 2 Mr. Paul Vielfaure
Hytek Farm La Broquerie, Manitoba
Hytek, that's the Vielfaure farm my father Albert and my uncle
Aimé started 30 years ago. At first they raised cattle and in
67 they began hog farming.
In 80, I arrived and then with my brothers Denis and Claude, we
ran three farms, three hog farms, each with 600 sows.
In 94, we decided to expand. There was a good opportunity in pork
then, so we set out to increase the numbers. We aimed to have
40,000 sows.
In the 80s, one thing we did, we decided to do everything ourselves.
We did the building ourselves, we fed the animals ourselves, we
built the stalls in the barns ourselves.
Every week, 100 trucks, 100 big tractor-trailers come here delivering
grain. So that's 20 trucks a day to feed all the hogs we have
in the barns. We sell mostly to Maple Leaf in Brandon, and they
sell to 80 different countries.
(The company) knows our pork is good and so they buy it, good
quality meat, very safe for their consumers. They take the hogs,
they turn them into bacon and chops, and then they tell the Japanese,
the Chinese and the Americans, "Hey, here's our product, do you
want to buy some?" "Sure, I'll buy 40,000 lbs from you..." And
that's how the wheel keeps turning.
