Modern Farms : Mega Farms

DunnRite Chicken
Mr. Raynald St-Hilaire
Production Manager

Dunnrite is a company that slaughters livestock, an abattoir. So that's where we slaughter the broilers that we raise on the farm. Afterwards, we sell the finished product to restaurants and retailers, locally and in other parts of Canada.
Nowadays, with the knowledge we have about genetics, we can grow a chicken to an average 1.75 - 1.8 Kg per bird in 34 or 35 days. With the computer, we can have a system that lets you weigh the bird every day, that keeps track of its growth day by day, so we know if it's getting enough meal, if it has enough water, if the temperature is just right or has changed; then we can adjust it with the technology that controls the air flow in the chicken shed.
The person in charge of the poultry can make decisions at least once a day, to be sure the flock is performing according to what can be expected, genetically speaking.
So there's a fantastic tool that they didn't have before.
