Agriculture in French Manitoba

Welcome!
Visitors to this site can embark on an exploration of more than a century of rural and farming life in the province of Manitoba. By examining the economic, technical, scientific and cultural aspects of the evolution that has taken place in farm work, the exhibition aims, in particular, to emphasize the close, if not uneventful, relationship between farming communities and the natural environment.

At the same time, the exhibition hopes to encourage its visitors to reflect on a dual phenomenon of considerable importance: on the one hand, francophone rural communities are being drawn into a world-wide economy, whose pressures and demands extend far beyond the community setting; on the other, the francophone community continues to affirm its distinct cultural identity, deriving sustenance from a shared rural experience on Manitoba soil. .

Between tradition and modern practice, between subsistence family farms and immense agri-food businesses, between the parish and the "global village", between a mythic image of the land and biotechnological advances in knowledge, there emerges the history of a little corner of the country and those who live there.

Enjoy your visit!
