Colonization

In less than a half-Century, from 1870 to 1914, the entire southern part of Manitoba is settled and developed by the first generations of pioneer farmers. This is the result of both the Canadian government's expansionist policy and the will of several thousand immigrants to start a new life in new lands. The pioneer years also see the first farm communities settled by Francophones, with their own family farms, their own towns, and their own parishes.
