Agricultural Work : The Business of Farming

Food manufactering industry
Holmes, Frances, J. S., "Manitoba Industrial Breakthrough"
Archives du Manitoba, V2

Manitoba is a food giant. Annual production of wheat flour alone reaches 5 million hundred weight. Meat packing is the provinces largest manufacturing industry. Many of the country's major meat packing plants are located in greater Winnipeg. The industry handles not only Manitoba livestock, it is a principal processing point for the West. Efficient production of foodstuffs from farm to package requires sophisticated and versatile equipment. The ever increasing production of the land is paced by the huge scale of new food processing facilities. The massive equipment of this potato processing industry covers 210 000 square feet. Highly automated, it is the most advanced plant of its type in North America.

Food processing industries throughout Manitoba are streamlining methods, using the newest machines and systems to ensure fine quality and efficient production. This mechanization has resulted in skyrocketing output from the provinces food industry.
